On this page, we will post videos from song time, evening programs, meal presentations, and anything else that may get recorded over the session. Please be patient with uploads, as we are trying to post content from the entire summer.
In our two-week program, at the end of our morning language group we all gather in Al-qahira to learn various songs from around the Arab World. Some are traditional and originate in Egypt, Morocco, or Lebanon, while others are more contemporary or downright silly. Nonetheless, all are sung in the Arabic language, with lots of gestures and hand signals to help comprehension.
Every evening, before we return to our cabins for Cabin Council and lights out, we gather in Al-Qahira to sing good night. This nightly ritual gets us ready for bed and concludes the activities of the day.
One of our evening programs focused on contemporary music in the Arab World. We learned about songs and singers from Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, and more nations. Villagers traveled to various stations and learned some belly dancing, drumming on the tabla, and a dabke dance as well.
